Groovement Presents Mondo Solar
Groovement proudly presents its first show for Samurai FM - a blissed out collection of moods from Favourite Records' Sau Paulo contingent: Modo Solar!
Exploring jazz-funk and soul electrified by Brazilian rhythms, Modo Solar is comprised of composers, instrumentalists, producers and singers Gian Paolo La Barbera and Fabricio DiMonaco. Their first EP was released in 2008 on Favourite Records and contained massive dancefloor-fillers 'Sunshine Love' and 'Natural', including remixes from Patchworks.
"We write songs", explains DiMonaco. Keeping clear of samplers, and critical of the modus operandi of modern creative processes that privilege production instead of composition, the duo, influenced today by the jazz-funk, funk, and soul of North Americans (Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder), Africans (Hugh Masekela, Letta Mbulu), and Brazilians (Robson Jorge & Lincoln Olivetti, Tim Maia, Marcos Valle, Deodato, and João Donato), have recorded their own material with the collaboration of percussionists Juninho and Marcos Banana, and flautist Gabriela Machado.

Presented by Agent J – this is the first show NOT on Unity Radio since Groovement started in October 2007 (three years ago exactly, numbers fans). Big plans are afoot for Phase Two of Groovement Radio, plans where Groovement can continue to support the thriving and inspirational music scene in Manchester and beyond, something which we would not have been able to do to our desired standard had we stuck within the restrictions of a proto-commercial FM licence. It also means we can bring the focus back onto Manchester at an international rather than solely local level, through podcasting.
